Temple of Wings Stairway

What I can’t understand is why anybody would want to add more oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Every year they have to be shut down during hurricane season. Who benefits from this? Not the gasoline customers when the gas prices go up, or the sea life, or the tourists, or the fishing industry.
Given the choice between oil spilling on land and on water, a land spill allows a longer cleanup time before it seeps into the water supply. The results of 2008 oil spills in the Mississippi River and off the cost of Texas are documented by the Coast Guard News:

Hi, Mari -
I just keep thinking of all the oil spills in the past, including the ones in Tampa Bay. One of those spills offshore could make a huge impact on our beaches and water sports as we know them, effectively putting an end to Gulf Coast Florida’s tourism-driven economy. Too much is at risk. I’d really rather not have to worry about that, especially during the increasingly violent and volatile storm seasons, when we have more than enough other issues with which to deal.
Peace,
Colleen
